I just read an article by rand corp, which suggest that teens that watch a lot of TV are more likely to get pregnant. It says that the teens are influenced by the TV shows especially the ones that contain sexual content. I strongly disagree with this article. I personally believe it has a big deal to do with the parents. If the parents were educating the children on these things then teen pregnancy rates would not be high. If the parents inform they’re children then the children would not be as curious to do something that is wrong because they know the consequences. My self personally growing up had parents to tell me what I needed to know and since then I have been on the right path with that matter. I knew whatever I saw on TV was wrong when I saw it because my parents taught me wrong from right. I believe that if I child wants to do something they will do it. TV plays a role now and days but I believe it more so depends on the child. I watched TV and played a lot of video games as a child and none of them ever inspired me to go out and imitate what I saw. The poll was done on kids 12-17 years of age. I agree with the end of the article when the author says ‘if we focused on what the youth does and does not know about sexuality instead of how much TV they watch then wed see some real change’. I personally could not agree anymore about that statement. Who ever conducted the survey needs to find out how much the kids know about sexuality and where did they learn it from and the information would be more accurate.

On claytoncubitt.com there is an article, which talks about how the wealthy should contribute to helping the poor. More specifically by taking on higher taxes for there properties. I know there are a lot of rich people who disagree with this logic because it is there money. In a way I do not blame them but I feel they can afford to take the cut. The money that they would end up being taxed they probably would never notice it coming out of their salary. There are more people struggling to survive and make it in the economy than there are people that are doing good financially. I feel that some of the people are just rich greedy people. If I were rich I would never mind being charged a little more taxes because I probably would not notice that money is gone especially if I knew my money would be helping the less fortunate In the long run. Like it said in the article there are people struggling to buy food. Keep a place to live. And keep cars. If I were rich I would contribute all the time especially when taking on higher taxes.

gun control

The right to bear arms I feel is an important part of the constitution. If puts no limits whether male or female. On BBC news there is an article named ‘Annie, get your gun’. It is about a lady and how she used to be terrified of guns she is now holding classes to help teach other females to shoot a gun. I strongly believe in the right to bear arms. I do not think it is right to walk around with an illegal gun and I feel more people should be educated on using a gun. A gun is used for hunting or protection. The article says that it is not the gun but it is the person using the gun who kills. That statement is very true and I believe if you intend to hurt someone than a gun will be used inappropriately. I agree with what she is doing with her knowledge on how to use a gun. I believe if there were more people doing the same I believe the murder rate in certain states would drop. Not only females but also men and woman should be informed. I also feel that there should be a stricter enforcement on how easy it is to get a gun. People should really have to prove how they can function well enough to carry a gun. I just believe that gun control should be better enforced and that guns should not be banned completely. It would be unfair and a complete violation of our rights.

Super hero revision

There are plenty of super heroes powers that I would like to have. My all time favorite growing up as a child had to be Batman. Then second in line was the Ninja turtles. There are plenty of others but the power I was always fascinated by was invisibility. Night Crawler, Wonder Woman’s jet, and the Hollow Man to name a few amazed me as a child. Since then I have always wished I could turn invisible when I wanted.
The first time I remember seeing an invisible superhero was Wonder woman. She had the invisible airplane and the lasso of truth. As a little boy I liked the super power but did not like her because she was a girl. Then the X-men series came out and they had Night crawler. Aside from gambit he was one of my favorite X-Men characters. He was rarely seen and could never be touched. I remember running around the house silently pretending I could not be seen. Now that I am older I would use the power to have fun and ultimately benefit from. The power of invisibility could be used in so many ways, but I am a simple person and it doesn’t take much to please me. If I woke up one morning and had the power of invisibility I would start by bothering the people in my house. I would make them think they were going crazy by rearranging things in there face and make noises just to scare them. I would open and close door and do little things like flushing the toilets and cutting the TVs on ad off. I would not tell them about my power and would just continue to scare them, especially when they get on my nerves. Then I would tell my girlfriend and friends by showing them what I could do. While at work I would do basically the same thing as I would at home. I would eaves drop on my fellow workers and managers to see what they really think about me. I would bother the managers I the office, I would clock myself in and out to give myself more hours while I am not working. I would bother all of the customers and make them think they where going crazy. Then I would get a couple friends together and go out and have fun messing with people while invisible.
After I finished having a little bit of fun I would go back home to Philadelphia and show my aunt and some of my family there. Then I would have fun there by bothering people round there. Then I would go to a doctor to see if I had any serious medical issues. If everything was clear then I would go to the media to get some recognition. I am quite sure I could make money off of the fact that I could make myself disappear. I don’t like being in the limelight but I would market myself to different companies to maybe shoot commercials or something to that effect. Then I would make enough money to carry out my personal goals in life and start my graphic designing company and sneaker line.
Ultimately in the end I would use the power to my advantage in any way possible. There are probably plenty of other things I would think of doing if I actually had the power. I probably would have to have the power to know what I would do exactly. I think the power to turn invisible would change my life in many ways. In the end, I think it would be real cool to have the ability to turn invisible.

If i were a super hero

Just like others as a child I had many TV shows and super heroes I would imitate. My favorites where the Ninja Turtles, X-men and Batman. The only problem is they obviously did not really have superpowers. The positive to them was that they were very stealthy. The way they moved in silence and were never seen until they needed to be amazed me as a child. Ultimately in the end, I think I would want to disappear whenever I pleased, sort of like Night crawler or Holloman. My superpower of choice is invisibility.

English recap

I remember when I first signed up for this course it was because I had a very hard teacher over the summer and failed the course. I tried not to end up with an eight-week course but I signed up and did my financial aid late so all of my classes were dropped. I just had a feeling that this course would be very hard because of how short it was but in the end I ended up being proved wrong. I also thought because the class was three hours long I would be sleep and that the teacher was going to be this boring old man who made us write pointless assignments every class. Instead on the very first day Paul fooled everyone by coming to the class as if he was a regular student and sat in the class like one for a good 10 minutes. He had me fooled because he looked just like a student. From there I had a feeling that I would like the class. The people in our class kept it lively and kept me paying attention. The first day watched ‘Super Size Me’. We often had open discussions about topics to help us better understand the concept of different things. Paul was humorous and keeps things interesting for an English teacher. The assignments were never to boring either. They were things I could relate with. I noticed that even before we started the course when we had to write something about if we were a super hero. The assignment was interesting and was a decent length. The class was entertaining and kept me awake because of Paul and our classmates; there was usually never a dull moment. The only thing that bothered me from time to time was the time we had to get assignments done and how many assignments we had to keep track of at one time. Sometimes everything felt scattered and I would find myself confused for a second. The presentations we were assigned to do were not hard and I could choose something that I was interested in talking about. Another thing that helped me in this class is the open discussions. A lot of times I would read the stories assigned for homework and didn’t quite understand them by the we would get in class the next day and discuss the story everything became quite clear. From being in this class I can say that I have become a better editor. I did not understand why we did peer editing at first but in the end I realized how much of a help it can be. I also have learned how to make a blog. I am pretty computer literate but I never made a blog until this class. Even though I will probably never make a blog after this class again at least I can say Paul taught me how. To sum this all up, being in this English class has been a good experience for me and if given the opportunity I would take Paul next semester for English.
